Eczema around the neck of a horse: special blanket needed

If your horse suffers from eczema around the neck, it is recommended to use an eczema blanket. If eczema regularly develops around your horse's neck, there are ways to prevent this or relieve the discomfort. A special blanket can take on both of these tasks. Especially in summer, horses regularly suffer from eczema. This is therefore also called the eczema season. Prevention is better than cure, but this is not always possible.

How can you best treat eczema around your horse's neck?

Eczema on your horse's neck is most common in the summer. This form of eczema is classified as summer eczema, because it is often caused by the bites of small insects called midges. It is often recommended to take steps in advance. An eczema blanket is an excellent way to prevent this form of eczema. It is often recommended to wear this type of blanket from March onwards, so that the eczema can be prevented at all.

This blanket has a repellent effect on various insects, including the midges that cause eczema with their bites. However, this cannot always be prevented completely. If your horse already suffers from eczema around the neck, it is advisable to first wash your horse thoroughly with an anti-itch product. Then you let the horse wear an eczema blanket, so that the animal can be prevented from being stung again. This is a good way to keep the eczema from getting worse and to give it time to go away.
