We have several articles that you will need around the birth and care of a foal. These products help you to be alert at the time of and to prepare you well for delivery.

Birthalarm

At the end of the pregnancy, a birth alarm around the neck of your mare helps you to be alert to the birth of the foal. When your mini horse or shetlander goes flat the alarm goes off. The sensitivity is adjustable.

Often the birth alarm is supported by a camera, so you can see from a distance whether the birth starts.

You can choose from different birth alarms.

The Animalcam is a wireless security camera that you hang in your horse stable / box for visual inspection on your pregnant mare.

Milk test strips

If the delivery is approaching, check the milk of the mare with milk test strips to get an indication of when the delivery will take place. This test gives is not 100% watertight, but gives an excellent indication of how far the mare is in preparation for the approaching delivery day.

Foal rugs

We have extra small foal rugs for the foal to protect against the cold after birth.

Around the birth of a Shetland pony

Mares are most fertile and studious in spring and summer. After the (successful) coverage the foal of your horse will be born after an average of 320-330 days. That is a gestation period of no less than almost 11 months. This is an average and there are differences in the gestation period from about three weeks shorter to four weeks longer.

Most horses like to give birth in silence - preferably in the dark. Most foals are born at night. Because of course you want to know that everything is going well around the birth and you want to be ready in case something goes wrong, there is the birth alarm. Almost all horses that are going to give birth lie on their side. That way they can give as much space as possible to the foal during the labor pains.

A birth alarm goes off as soon as your horse lies flat on its side and gives a signal to your cell phone, which causes it to go off. So you can still witness the birth of the foal and take immediate action in the event of complications by calling the vet directly or when you really need to intervene yourself. You can extend your birth alarm with a security camera. With this you keep a close eye on your pregnant mare and you immediately know whether it is a false alarm or not. The camera is also ideal for monitoring your miniature horse in other situations. Simply in the stable or during transport in the trailer. Even when the foal is born, it is wonderful to be able to secretly follow the “mother-child entertainments” on the camera via the camera.
