Taking care of your leather halter

Leather is a beautiful, natural material and has a very long lifespan. A leather halter therefore lasts longer than a nylon halter. However, it is important to properly maintain a leather halter.

To keep your haslter nice, it is recommended that you clean and care for it at least once a month. Does your horse hold the halter when it is outside? Then the halter needs more maintenance. For cleaning, take your halter apart and remove the coarse dirt with a brush. Then clean the leather using saddle soap. Saddle meal removes dirt and sweat from the leather.

Do not use too much water when cleaning. If you do this, then the leather loses its flexibility with the result that it starts to feel stiff. If the leather has dried properly after cleaning, you can treat it with a care product, for example leather grease. When the fat is properly absorbed in the leather, you can reassemble the halter.
